After updating to the 2019 Photoshop, I go through the same process of creating a smart object from a rectangle, but when I try to use Transform Distort and move the corners, they jump around like they are snapping to something and I can never get them even close to the place I need them—even though snapping is turned off.However, the Transform Distort works smoothly as expected to the rectangle BEFORE I convert it to a smart object.

In my opinion they know what they do, otherwise they would have passed long time ago. There had to be some unofficial agreement between magnates where one had no interest desktop users were stopping inculcation of their well-thought world market domination plan. Can you imagine the amount of changes to the software if they actively try to force iPad user workflow into a desktop app?What's next, we need to use 2 mouses or pens to replicate 2 finger gestures?Also - it's not happening anytime soon. Large companies are not overhauling their investment in desktop PCs/Macs retraining entire employee base, restructuring IT depts, changing email systems, networks, etc. At my work, we are still on Win 7 for a reason.

It would be way better for them to develop them seperately and refine each program specifically for it's user base. Why in world would Adobe make a change to the functionality that has been in use for 15+ years??? Do you care at all about professionals who have used your app since the inception of Photoshop?
It makes no effing sense to switch the shift key from constraining proportions to non-constraining, unless you're doing it just to confuse your users. Who is in charge of these idiotic decisions that serve no purpose other than pissing people off?Wake the F up and pay attention to your user base instead of putting all your resources into creating tons of new apps that nobody cares about!
I agree, of course.But my question is 'why downgrade when one line of text solves the problem?' - not whether or not this new transform behavior change is good. I'm NOT advocating for Adobe here, at all. This change horrified me as well.Yet.

Yes.(many of us are already in the habit of adding switches to PSUserConfig.txt in order to get our wacoms to work correctly with photoshop). But it took me much time to find in the forum where to create this fileas I haven’t used it before. And I will have to remember now to take this file with me to all computers I happen to work on and remember where toplace it.So my suggestionand great plea to Adobe is just to add the change of this option to Edit/Preferencesmenu.I can understandthe intention of Adobe to simplify operations that are probably used more oftenand will be easier for beginners. But this change is really horrible for oldusers (I am 70) who were used to certain keyboard shortcut combinations for decadesnot even thinking which key modifier controls which aspect of the operation, like e.g.Ctrl+Alt+Shift for perspective correction in Free Transform. Downgrading is more of a protest than a solution. I'm sure I could have found a fix for the issues within minutes and adjusted w/e shortcuts they changed, but I was just so annoyed with the change that I simply don't want to use their new update. Hopefully when they see that the new software isn't being used, they'll revert the changes or at least have them ON by default.Generally when you roll out a massive update like this that messes with people's brains, you need to include a pop-up or a notice telling you how you can turn it on/off.
